Oklahama vs. FSU College Football Matchup
The Florida State Seminoles football team will travel to Oklahoma to play the Sooners on September 11th. Here is an in-depth look at this matchup.
Oklahoma vs FSU on September 11th will be an early gut check for both teams. Coming out of last season both teams have more questions than answers. FSU has to deal with not having Bobby Bowden for the first time in a long time. Not to mention the fact that they had a colossal melt down last season finishing with 7-6 record. Problems have continued with the possible suspension of Nigel Carr. Oklahoma is not without its own drama either. As if a disappointing 8-5 season last year wasn't enough of an issue there conference, the Big 12, was almost completely broken apart and dismantled. With both teams looking to get back into the national spot light and make a move for the BCS title let's take a look at the match up.
Florida State: While I am not going to say FSU needs a miracle to pull this one off, they will need the right bounces and a break or two. Neither Florida States passing game or their ground attack was particularly effective last season. Most of these problems can be pinned on two things, play calling, and inconsistent offensive line play. Christian Ponder (QB) was sacked 15 times last season and he only played in nine games. The offensive line will need to do a better job of keeping their quarterback off the turf if they want to win this game and also have a chance at winning the ACC this year. Play calling was an issue in the running game last year. If FSU wants any success they need to trust in there running game. It has been a long time since FSU's defense has been considered elite so keeping them off the field and pounding the football and sprinkling in some play action passing should be just what the doctor ordered. If FSU can control the time of possession they should take this game down to the wire and have a chance to win. Barring another infamous wide right incident of course.
Oklahoma: Last years season can be summed up with one name, Sam Bradford, or in this case the lack of. After being injured in Oklahoma's first game last year the Sooners tried there best to hang on, but to n avail. This year should be different. Landry Jones was a true freshman last year playing on a high profile ball club with a tough schedule. Mistakes happen and it takes every good QB a little time to get comfortable in the system. Don't believe me? Look at what he did last year in the Sun Bowl versus Stanford. Landry threw for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. This year I expect to see great things from the returning sophomore. Couple his improved passing with a great returning back in DeMarco Murray and look out Big 12, or whats left of the Big 12. Assuming that the off field issues over the summer haven't bothered the players and Oklahoma should not only pummel FSU but also they will be in the hunt for a BCS bid.
Prediction: FSU will fight hard but they simply do not have the talent on both sides of the ball to hang with Oklahoma. Look for the Sooners to take control of this game by scoring early and often.
